Advocacy

Fighting hunger takes more than just providing emergency food to people in need - it also means taking action to address the root causes of food insecurity and poverty.

Public policy has an enormous impact on the resources weโ€™re able to distribute and the amount of assistance needed by our community members, and thatโ€™s why we strategically engage in advocacy work at the federal, state and local levels. In partnership with the California Association of Food Banks, our team educates the public and policymakers about food insecurity and encourages them to partner with us on programs and policies thatโ€™ll improve food access.

Our advocacy work is focused on these key areas:

Food bank support

Investing in our food banks and understanding the critical role they play in the social safety net

Disaster resilience

Feeding communities when we need it most

Child nutrition

Working to ensure no child goes hungry

CalFresh (SNAP)

Strengthening a program thatโ€™s our best defense against hunger

Food waste

Preventing good food from going to waste

Poverty

Attacking hunger and its root causes from all angles
